Instagram has announced that it is testing out subscriptions with a bunch of creators. Creators can choose a monthly price ranging from $0.99 to $99.99 per month. They can also unlock a special "subscribe" button on their profile and offer the following benefits to their subscribers:
Subscriber Lives: Creators can broadcast exclusive Lives to their subscribers, allowing them to engage more deeply.
Subscriber Stories: Creators can create stories just for their subscribers, allowing them to share exclusive content and to use interactive story stickers with their most engaged followers only.
Subscriber Badges: Creators will see a subscriber badge next to comments and messages so they can easily identify their subscribers.
The feature is currently available to a bunch of creators in the US, while the company plans to expand access to even more creators over the next few months. Instagram users can see subscriptions in action on the profiles of these creators: @alanchikinchow, @sedona._, @alizakelly, @kelseylynncook, @elliottnorris, @jordanchiles, @jackjerry, @bunnymichael, @donalleniii, and @lonnieiiv.
Instagram also noted that as part of the company's continued commitment to support creators, Meta will not collect any fees from creators on Facebook Subscriptions purchases until at least 2023, which will also apply to Instagram Subscriptions.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri, in a video, says that subscriptions are one of the best ways for influencers and creators to have a predictable income. Facebook and Instagram are not the only companies that have a subscription model. Others like YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter already have their own subscription services in place for quite some time now, while there are also off-platform subscriptions like Patreon and Substack available for creators.
